Corrections, Complaints & Appeals
How AfroStrategy handles corrections, updates, retractions, complaints and editorial appeals.
Effective date: October 2026. Last reviewed: September 2026.
AfroStrategy seeks to maintain an accurate, transparent and trustworthy published record.
Minor corrections
Minor typographical, formatting, metadata, grammar or non-substantive factual corrections may be made without a formal correction notice where they do not alter the central meaning of the publication.
Substantive corrections
Where an error materially affects interpretation, evidence, data, attribution or conclusions, AfroStrategy may add a dated correction note explaining the change.
Updates
Current-affairs analysis may be updated when significant new information becomes available.
Where an update materially changes the article, the publication should indicate that it has been updated and state the relevant date.
Retractions
A publication may be retracted in serious cases including fabricated or falsified material, major plagiarism, fundamental unreliability, serious copyright violation, unlawful publication, unethical research, manipulated peer review or major undisclosed conflicts affecting the integrity of the work.
A retraction notice should identify the affected publication, explain the reason in objective language and remain accessible as part of the publication record where legally and technically appropriate.
Withdrawal before publication
An accepted or scheduled publication may be withdrawn before release where serious ethical, legal, factual or authorship concerns emerge.
Author disagreement
AfroStrategy may issue a correction, editorial note or retraction even where an author disagrees if the available evidence justifies the action.
Complaints
A complaint should identify:
- the publication or decision concerned;
- the specific issue;
- the evidence supporting the complaint; and
- the remedy requested where relevant.
Send editorial complaints to:
Good-faith complaints are reviewed on their merits.
Appeals
A contributor may ask for reconsideration of a significant editorial decision where they believe relevant evidence was overlooked or a process was applied incorrectly.
An appeal does not guarantee reversal.
Where practicable, an appeal should be reviewed by an editor who was not solely responsible for the original disputed decision.
Privacy and conduct
Complaint and appeal information should be handled proportionately and shared only with people who reasonably need it to review the issue.
Abusive, threatening, fraudulent or repetitive correspondence may be restricted.
